Cages

I highly recommend purchasing cages of various sizes via Caging Bobcats for bobcat-sized cats. If you are in a place where you must build your own cages (ie., Africa or Asia), I recommend purchasing one of Mercer’s cages to use as a template in your country. You can alter dimensions to fit your species. I have done this for caracals in South Africa and fishing cats in Sri Lanka.

All cats will respond to the right lures. If you are having trouble getting your species’ attention with the lures you are trying, then you are trying the wrong lures. For a foolproof set of scents, I recommend Mercer Lawing’s line of scent lures. Mercer always has new things in the works, so if you want more options, get in touch with him for tips.

Audio lures are a great way to call cats in long or short-distance. If you are worried that the sound of an animal in distress will send your cat running, then try these Edge Expedite Trap lures that make the sound of a chirping prey species that isn’t in distress. I place these on the back of my cages. They aren’t loud, so I use these as short-distance calls to get the cats to take the last few steps into a cage.
